Content Management Systems & Website Hosting

There are multiple benefits of a centralized content management system and website hosting solution including better search engine optimization, controlled information architecture schema, standardized branding, comprehensive web analytics, disaster recovery and data backup solutions, cost savings, cohesive mobile-friendly user experience, and compliance (accessibility, privacy, etc.)

Because of this, UofL requires:

  • CMS - The official content management system (CMS) of the University of Louisville is Drupal. No other CMS may be used to manage content for an external or internal UofL website.
  • Hosting - Web hosting for university sites must be provided by UofL ITS (or designated third-party of their choosing). No other web hosting solution may be utilized.

Exceptions

Consideration for exemption may be made if a unit is found to meet one of the following criteria:

  • The unit’s basic role must not be linked to the mission of the University of Louisville; AND/OR
  • The unit must operate in a retail environment and have a storefront; AND/OR
  • The unit has multiple funding sources and operates as a true consortium.

The eligibility of a campus organization to be granted CMS/hosting exemption is determined exclusively by the Digital Experience Board, dxboard@louisville.edu.
